After initial testing, the THOR-NT dummy neck has shown to be more biofidelic than the Hybrid III dummy neck. Ongoing research is being conducted to validate this hypothesis. During this research, injury assessment reference values (IARV) will be proposed for the THOR-NT neck in tension. IARVs are developed by comparing the mechanical responses of ATDs with results from cadaver tests and with results from computational models of the living human neck. These values will be used to determine the onset of possible human injury during future motor-vehicle testing with the THOR-NT ATD.
